| Present Position | Film producer/director for Outer Cove Productions. |
2003-2012 |
Producer/director working exclusively for the World health Organization in Geneva. Duties included working globally with health teams in more than 50 countries. I was tasked with shooting, writing and editing films about different health related topics such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters and preparedness training on five continents. These films were distributed widely to health institutions around the world and were broadcast on major TV stations. |
| 1986 – 2003 | Smyth Video Productions, Producing/directing of films for a large number of German and international companies, with heavy emphasis on WHO, Geneva. My duties for these productions included acquisition, concept, script, production, directing, post-production. Projects dealing with International Public Relations require extensive travel and negotiations with various companies and government officials. Flexibility, teamwork and imagination are essential skills in order to coordinate projects from start to finish. |
| 1980 – 1986 August | Moderne Informations Technik (MIT), in Germany, as producer. Responsible for all phases of production of internationally distributed training films for a diverse number of German companies such as BMW, FORD Motor Company (Germany), Deutsche Bank. Production and editing took place throughout Europe and America. Besides production, duties included customer relations, production and organization, supervision of foreign language translations (8 languages), coordination on location and online editing supervision. |
| 1978 – 1980 December | Avalon Cablevision, St. John’s, as studio director Included all phases of studio and mobile production for community television, training of station employees, concept and script writing, as well as major contributions to studio and mobile unit design. |
| 1975 – 1978 | September Memorial University of Newfoundland, as senior audio-visual assistant Responsible for the preparation and distribution of audio-visual materials. Most audio-visual materials were produced in the university’s own fully equipped televisions production and editing facilities. This job required a high degree of interaction between studio staff and the university faculty. Mobile productions at schools throughout the province were carried out on a regular basis. |
